Sacrificial Service

Everything seemed to be moving in warp speed as the Jones* family discovered they needed to return to the States. They had quickly made the trip to the capital city thinking they could wait out the pandemic near better healthcare.  They had no idea they would not be able to return to their work.

This family of 7 suddenly found themselves needing to evacuate their country. This meant they needed housing and transportation back in Texas, at the height of the Covid-19 crisis. They had two days to find a place for a couple with 5 kids!

Allan and Laurie knew the Jones family before they went to Africa. They had prayed for them often. When they learned of their unplanned return, they quickly got under the burden of finding a way to care for the Jones family.

As they prayed about the challenge of finding housing for this family of 7, who also needed a 14-day quarantine, Laurie and Allan made one of the most incredible offers I’ve ever heard. They said:

“We have a one room guest-house in our back yard – equipped with a bathroom and kitchenette. We will move out there and let them quarantine in our home until we can find a permanent place for them to live.”

Sacrificial service. The Jones had sacrificed their comforts to take the Gospel to an Unreached People Group in Africa. Allan and Laurie were willing to sacrifice their comfort to serve this Missionary family.

But even if I am poured out as a drink offering on the sacrificial service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.  (Phil. 2:17
